Training award 2019: IREKS apprentices win gold –
with the IREKS environmental news

“Red in the logo and green in the heart”, is the headline of the local press on the victory of the IREKS apprentices at the Kulmbach training award ceremony. Under the motto “We/my company protect(s) the environment”, the aim was to display a complex topic, which is more present in our today’s society than ever before, in a comprehensible and descriptive way.

Nature is of particular importance to IREKS because it provides numerous natural raw materials which are the basis for the manufacture of our products. Therefore, the company makes an essential contribution to the preservation and protection of the environment – in the last ten years alone, 120 concrete measures have been taken to this end. These include, for example, process and installation optimizations and the use of the latest efficiency technologies as well as large projects, such as the construction of a new brewhouse.

Where does environmental protection begin, what does it include and how can this topic be illustrated – ideally in a relaxed and amusing manner? No simple questions for our first-year apprentices. However, in one thing everyone agreed immediately: a short film is to be made and structured like a newscast – the IREKS environmental news.

With their film project, the apprentices obviously managed to explain the commitment of IREKS in regard to environment and resource protection in a descriptive way and, consequently, were nominated for the training award.  Part of it was the presentation of their project to the jury and to the other finalists. Despite stage fright, our apprentices coped with this challenge in an excellent way and were rewarded accordingly: 1st place for the IREKS environmental news of our apprentices!

The Kulmbach training award is conferred annually by the working group SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT and the Bayerische Rundschau. To win the prize money of €750, it is the task of the apprentices to convince the jury of a specific project.
