Koláče are arguably the most popular confectionery baked goods in the Czech Republic. Traditionally they are baked for weddings or for especially festive occasions such as parish fairs or birthdays.
The production of these moist, fresh baked goods is simple and efficient. With the help of a drinking glass, round biscuits are cut from the rolled out dough, with the smaller base of the glass, a hollow is made in the centre which is then spread with the filling. Thus, the typical round shape is obtained.
Koláče exist with very many different filling variations. No matter whether quark, plum jam, apricot or apple filling, poppy, hazelnut or walnut filling – fantasy has no bounds.
