Advanced energy supply: Combined heat and power plant meets green electricity

Strong combinations are needed for a sustainable energy future. IREKS has further developed its supply concept and switched its electricity procurement to green in addition to its existing climate-friendly in-house electricity generation via combined heat and power (CHP): Since 2025, the electricity drawn from the public grid has come from renewable energy sources. Thus, throughout Germany, the company relies 100 % on sustainable electricity.

Twice as sustainable – for the environment and security of supply

With 19 GWh from our own combined heat and power plants and the EICHENMÜHLE hydropower plant as well as 19 GWh of public green electricity, we achieve a 50/50 balance – combining in-house production with flexible, renewable supply from the market. The result: maximum efficiency, minimum emissions and a consistent contribution to the energy transition.

Our combined heat and power plants, which run on natural gas as fuel, have an average utilisation rate of 90 % of the energy used (compared to around 45 % for conventional electricity generation). The hydropower plant of EICHENMÜHLE converts the kinetic energy of the water into electricity – a purely mechanical process, without fuels.
